Cost Effective Home Entertainment
The modern technology has come a long way and today nearly anything can be done. From VCRs to CDs and now DVDs in Blu-Ray or HD DVD, nobody can tell what the next amazing gadget or invention will be. But very possibly, the DVD home theater system is first and foremost when it comes to cost effective home entertainment.
In the late 1970s, VCRs were starting a trend. We were able to see movies then in less than a year on a VHS tape after they were on the big movie screens. But today we get to watch movies on DVD players Blu-Ray or HD DVD within weeks or months of the major movie release. DVD means Digital Versatile Disc or Digital Video Disc, is the most popular media player of this century. DVDs are the same size as CDs (compact disc) but store nearly six times as much data.
The modern DVD player's functionality is not just to play DVDs but they're come with many extra features. What makes them versatile is compatibility with audio CDs and MP3s. DVDs are formatted now in such a way that surround sound and picture formats may be played in their original 16x9 aspects. Some DVDs come with both aspect ratios 16x9 and the standard definition 4:3. Sometimes referred to as Full screen and Wide screen formats with some offering both formats on the same DVD.
DVD has Just About Replaced the VCR
The DVD models we have today are notable for their recording capability. The old VCRs are going by way of the Dodo bird. Rapidly replacing VCR recorders are the new feature rich home theater DVD player/recorders. The newer home theater DVD player/recorders are more costly than traditional DVD players because of the features and recording capabilities. They are the component of choice for home theater systems. Of great benefit for people who are fans of regular television series but who cannot catch every episode.
DVRs Becoming the Norm
The DVR's have revolutionized the way we are able to record and view television. The DVR has a hard drive storing the shows you watch in file format allowing you more control. This gives you the ability to have more control over what you're watching, and when you're watching it! Most cable companies offer this service to their digital customers as an added feature called TiVo DVR. For a small monthly fee, they will provide you with the TiVo DVR necessary to record and playback your favorite programs for your complete satisfaction.
Home theater systems are not complete without a sound system and DVD player. Many DVD home theater systems now include, naturally, a DVD player, sound system, and big screen HDTV. Every part serves a critical function without which you would just be watching television.
Home theater systems will not perform optimally unless you get a great sound system too. The HDTV Video receivers are just as critical component as the sound system. The DVD home theater system is essential for transforming an ordinary home theater system into a terrific one. Great quality does command a higher cost, but its well worth paying a bit more.

When your home theater system makes you feel like you have been to the movies it means enjoyment for the whole family. You can easily spend too much money because high grade equipment can demand high prices. It is possible for you to get a high quality home theater experience by doing two simple things first. Do your homework first and start out with a good budget.
Improving a Home Theater System
If you're considering on improving your home theater system, but are concerned about the cost and difficultly, relax. Just doing a little homework can improve it without breaking the bank. Spend a little time getting to know the various components you need to improve your home theater sound system. Then by doing a little comparison shopping on the Internet for the best prices you will not break the bank.
What is Missing from Your Home Theater?
By figuring out what's lacking in your current home theater sound system first. Are you unhappy with the sound? That may mean you need a better sound system and speakers. What kind of sound system do you want? Dolby bass systems and surround sound systems are available. But not every stereo system will work on your home theater.
The Best Place to Start
A good start is the Internet. There are many online resources that provide information and sell equipment. You should look for some good quality that fits your budget. Rather than picking the first thing that catches your eye, you should try to take your time checking the options. The smart way to find out whether the home theater sound system you're considering will create the sound you are hopping for is to check out the options. You may need to visit a home electronics store where you can listen to various systems in a room built for that purpose. You can get the chance to "test drive" the equipment from various companies and note your likes and dislikes. But don't buy on the spot because your best option, once you've settled on a system, is to shop online to find the best price.
